 WalkieTalkie for Facebook

What is WalkieTalkie for Facebook?

WalkieTalkie for Facebook is a simple solution to allow members of a Facebook group to talk in real time. There’s no configuration, no software, and only one button.  WalkieTalkie is free of charge for Facebook users. Each group member can add a WalkieTalkie voice chat room very quickly to their profile page – and you can add a WalkieTalkie for each group you’re part of.
WalkieTalkie allows group members in Facebook to connect online and have a meeting or just a casual conversation in real time using the convenience, expression, and nuance of voice.
WalkieTalkie is a new YackPack application for Facebook and we’re making improvements all the time. Stay tuned for updates and more information..

How do I install and use WalkieTalkie for Facebook?

To install WalkieTalkie, first go to www.facebook.com and login to your Facebook account. Next, go to your profile page. On the left-hand side of your profile page, you’ll see the “Applications” list. Under that click on the words that say “Browse Applications.” Find WalkieTalkie in the list of applications and click on it. That will take you to the WalkieTalkie install application page. Click the button that says “add application.” Confirm that you want to add WalkieTalkie to your profile page.

You will then be taken back to your profile page where WalkieTalkie is now listed as one of your applications. You will also find a black WalkieTalkie box for each of the groups you are in on the right-hand column at the bottom. Like all Facebook profile areas, you can move WalkieTalkie wherever you’d like to on the page.

Click the “Connect” button to go live. You may first be asked by Adobe (because WalkieTalkie uses the Flash Adobe player) to allow access to your camera and microphone (this is the default pop-up for Adobe Flash Player). WalkieTalkie does not use a camera at all…just a microphone. You’ll want to click “Allow” and check “Remember” before closing the pop up.

After that, you’ll see the name of the group appear on the lower left. The number in the lower right-hand corner of the WalkieTalkie box tells you how many users are in the room. Technically, as long as somebody has their speakers turned up, they can hear you talk. Just click and hold the “push to talk” button to begin talking. Release the button when you’re done.
When you’re talking, you’ll see the “push to talk” button say “you are live” and the blue line (volume meter) across the bottom turn green, indicating that you (or somebody else) is talking. It will grow longer or shorter depending on how loud or soft your (or somebody else’s) recording volume is. You will also see the name of the person talking with a green dot next to it.

What do I need to use WalkieTalkie?

The first thing you need to use WalkieTalkie is a Facebook account. Next, you also need to be a member in a Facebook group(s).

WalkieTalkie uses Adobe Flash Player. If you find you don’t have Flash installed in your browser, you can download it from Adobe:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

After that, all you really need is a computer microphone and speakers or a headset. Because WalkieTalkie uses live voice, you need a way to make your voice heard (microphone) and a way to hear others speak (speakers or headset).
