Microphones & Speakers

YackPack requires a microphone (if you want to record voice messages) and speakers (or headset) to hear the recorded messages, if you need help, try the following:

Click here to interactively step you through setting up a microphone and speakers
(currently the Apple USB microphones are not supported).

Click here to find a wide selection of PC compatible microphones
at www.ourmicrophone.com.

Apple Mac sound problems can occur when certain Mac applications reset your
sounds in a way that makes Macromedia Flash unable to play things. When your
Mac stops playing sound while in a browser while using MacroMedia Flash:

Check the application "Audio Midi Setup", found in /applications/utilities/.
Reset the audio system to the default: 16 bits and 44.1 kHz sample rate.
You'll find the setting area in the lower right-hand part of the screen
.
Once you reset these settings, the Flash sounds play just fine.
This is not a YackPack problem but a Mac/Flash issue.

Troubleshooting for Microphones on a PC

If you’re having problems recording audio in YackPack, you may need to adjust
the microphone settings on your computer. Here’s how:

1. First click the start button
on your computer.

2. Next, click on the Control Panel icon

3. When the Control Panel opens, find the Sounds and
Audio Devices icon

and double click on it.

4. Then click on the tab at the top that says Voice.

5. Find the Voice recording area and click the Volume button.

6. Look for the column that says Microphone. First make sure
that the area that says Select is checked.

7. Adjust the volume meter somewhere between mid-way and
the top. The bottom is lower input (volume) and the top is higher.
You can always come back and adjust this after you’ve done some recordings.

8. Now you’re ready to test the microphone again! You can test it in YackPack
or go ahead and follow the directions for using Sound Recorder.

To test your microphone, you can go to YackPack, login and select yourself to
send a message to. Record a short message, and then click “send.” When you see
the green bar on your own avatar, click on your name and play back the green
message in the archive on the right. Can you hear your voice? Great! If not, please
feel free to review the steps above, adjust your recording levels, or contact our
helpful, friendly support staff at 800-687-2149 or support@yackpack.com.

Another way to test your microphone is to open Sound Recorder. Here’s how:

1. Click the start button on your computer.

2. Then click to open your program list (All Programs).

3. Navigate to your Accessories folder, find the Entertainment folder, and then
open Sound Recorder.

4. Click on the red button to record.

5. Click stop and play back your recording.

Can you hear your voice? Great! If not, please feel free to review the steps
above, adjust your recording levels, or contact our helpful, friendly support
staff at support@yackpack.com.
